Dr Marko Seppä is Owner and CEO of VCC Oy, a private investment and advisory practice. Apprenticed as venture capitalist in Finland and the US in the late 1980s, he launched FVC Oy, a pioneering cross-border VC firm, into the emerging markets of Russia in the 1990s.
After defending PhD in Corporate Strategy in 2000, he launched eBRC, a shared e-business research center for Tampere University of Technology and University of Tampere as part of a local pilot of eEurope, and GVL, a shared global venture lab as Invited Professor of Growth Venture Creation at University of Jyväskylä.
He has raised over 20MEUR in R&D funding for 100+ projects and created major annual business research and venture events, including Kasvu Open. He has advised entrepreneurs and governments on business creation and VC in Europe, Russia, USA and India for over 20 years.
His academic portfolio comprises 104 publications; he has supervised 3 PhDs to completion and examined 5 PhD theses in Canada, Finland and the UK.
He has served European Commission Innovation Funding Programs since 2002 and Vietnam-Finland Innovation Partnership Program (IPP) since 2015 as Independent Advisor and Evaluator. He has helped IPP create a grant-funded portfolio of 18 startups and train 56 certified Entrepreneurship & Innovation trainers from 17 universities across Vietnam.
He has lived in Vietnam since 2016 and is currently based in HCMC.
